Starz has found a hit in its critically acclaimed drama The Missing, and understandably wants to keep the show around. The network has renewed the Golden Globe-nominated series for an eight-part second season—or rather, has ordered a "sequel," as Season 1 was co-produced with the BBC as an eight-part limited event.
The Missing's first season, which stars James Nesbitt and Frances O'Connor and takes place in two different timelines, chronicles the years-long manhunt that ensues after a young boy disappears while vacationing with his family in France. The series aired in the U.K. earlier this year, drawing over 7 million viewers per episode, and the Season 1 finale is scheduled to air in the U.S. on Saturday, January 10.
Following in the footsteps of its fellow anthology dramas True Detective and Fargo, The Missingwill feature a new case, new characters, and a new location in Season 2. Season 1 scribes Harry and Jack Williams will remain onboard to write, and the new story will also take place in two different timelines.
